A 17-year-old boy has died following a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Adelanto that occurred on Friday, March 20. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal crash occurred on Highway 395 when the Tehachapi teen veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on into a semi-truck, and striking another vehicle.

The teen was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center and died of his injuries the following day. The truck driver was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital. Officials have released no details regarding his condition. None of the occupants in the third vehicle were injured in the collision.

Investigators provided no further details, such as whether speed, alcohol, or drugs where suspected factors in the crash. Highway 395 was closed for hours while investigators gathered evidence and cleared the roadway. The investigation is ongoing.

Head-on collisions with tractor-trailers are among the most severe types of motor vehicle crashes. The size and weight of commercial trucks typically cause extensive damage to smaller vehicles, and when multiple vehicles are involved, the risk of serious or fatal injuries increases significantly. Crashes involving tractor-trailers also often require extended and detailed investigations due to the complexity of the scene and extent of damage.
